One SMac round= cripple 3 covenant ships. And covenant ships are a bit larger that reapers. The CSO class super carriers are 28 kilometers long, like the long night of solace...the ship leading the attack on reach.

Mass Effect gets ROFL stomped by everything aside from Battlestar Galactica.

lol yeah...and Star Wars rofl stomps all, no wait. proving that one sci-fi series would own another usually means that the sci-fi series doing the owning is the least realistic of the two.

I'm not here to discuss realism, champ.
Besides Mass Effect has to be Star Trek-tier realism.

I don't understand honestly, Golly, you sign up on their forums, you invade the picture page, and just insult everyone and then turn around and claim offense when someone calls you out on it...
As resident member of a Halo mod...Mass Effect would win if it was UNSC vs say...Alliance. The Alliance already has a step up in technology, using shields(kinetic barriers), as well as armor, with more advanced railgun technology. That said, some UNSC ships are just flying hunks of armor(like the Halcyon), and the use of massed-missile attacks means almost all of their weapons can be focused on a target at once, while I seem to remember most Mass Effect ships not mounting turrets, but instead favoring broadsides. Really though, each universe has merit, but I would personally favor Mass Effect over Halo, if only that a lot of the technology in Mass Effect...makes sense, and makes sense on a tactical level, in the case of military technology. Sci fi that handicaps itself on purpose just to make writing for it easier...that's not good.

the reapers are billions of years old and created the halo rings just like the relays and the citadel (out of the box thinking haha)

I personally feel mass effect its better than halo, they are both great universes, but halo in my eyes has more potential for future games, or books, i mean 30 years of war.
but if i was given the choice to jump into a portal and get shot to one of the two, it would be mass effect, the technology is awesome, the ships look awesome and hey, dont forgt the sexy asari every where.

Something I like about Halo is that humans aren't all that advanced. Example: Why would you need a hover vehicle? The power required to do something like that is pretty extreme and tires work fine. Same thing with conventional weapons, bullets kill people just fine.
Humanity never faced a real threat until the Covenant came along so there was no need to advance, everything they had worked fine. They had never really even fought in space until the insurrectionist came along and when that threat happened technology started advancing faster (See: MACs gained a lot more funding and became a lot more advanced). There is a 400+ year gap where almost nothing happened but maybe because there was peace and colonization during that time, there was no friction because people could just colonize other worlds.
I believe there was a lull in colonizing and so UNSC started cracking down on the colonies (also there is a heap of colonies, but only a hand full of 'inner' colonies. See: important planets) and then the insurrectionists rose up and after that happened there was no more colonizing because all resource were devoted to fighting 'innies'.
The Covenant were way more advanced for two reasons: 1. The Forerunner tech they found. (Forerunners advanced from fighting. See: Conquering a fudge tonne of planets, dominating the known universe) 2. They had been fighting with almost everything they came into contact with so there was a need to advance. And after they defeated them some of those other species joined the Covenant, then infighting. So the Covenant almost constantly fought and so needed to advance.
And I am under the assumption humans had found alien life in the universe (See: Moa on Reach, and that big crazy thingy, also means some planets didn't need terraforming/ much terraforming) And when they did find life there was much rejoicing, but then it became kind of... eh. In the words of Patrick Stewart, "No matter how big a splash you make in this world whether you're Corey ... Muniz, Justin Bieber or a talking teddy bear, eventually, nobody gives a shit." Then there came a hunt to find intelligent life, the next big step. (See: humans already had a heap of first contact scenarios planned and set up) And well you know the rest, human genocide at the hands of overzealous aliens while Chief flies around the universe screw shtuff up.
I love the Halo universe but I am no 'fan boy'. I see that there are flaws and gaps and inconsistencies but I can live with them.
Now for Halo vs Mass Effect. I will not wade in on another 'this sci-fi vs that sci-fi' because it just can't be done. Both universes have merit and different kinds of tech. I just came to tell my opinion on Halo and I guess defend it a little.

In Halo you have Slipspace which lets you go where you want rather fast. ME is limited to connections by Mass Relays. So you can get across the galaxy faster in ME than Halo but halo is faster local. In halo the humans are more militerized than ME. More tanks, planes, troops, etc. In ME ground combat on any large scale is rare and most planets only have token forces. In halo the UNSC has about 800 worlds pre-war while in ME they Alliance has a dozen or so major colonies and a few hundred outposts or small colonies. ME ships have more mass drivers and shields and the UNCS has a MAC or two per ship and they fire slower. Also no shields on a large scale. At the first contact war in ME the codex says the Alliance had 200 ships. The UNSC would probably have closer to 2 to 3 thousand of various sizes. So Id say Halo in numbers in space and better at ground than ME but ME has a space advantage against the a ratio of 1:3 or 1:5 depending on the classes of the ships involved. This is just educated speculation on what each side has and what how they fair in there respective universes.

800 colonies with only 2 dozen having human presence on them (UNSC colonisation)

What do you mean? They had more than that. It wouldnt take 25 year of war for the covenant to destroy only 24 colonies. Do you mind sharing where you found or heard that???

The weakest Halo human MACs impact with the force of a 64 kiloton bomb but fire around about every ten seconds, according to the Gunnery Sergent in the Citadel the equivalent of the Mass Effect MACs impacts at 38 kiloton, but fires at a much greater rate the the Halo MAC in most cases (fastest rate of fire is a round every two seconds). But as Halo humans have a lot of ships (exact numbers unknown but most battles consist of about 100 ships and it would be unlikely they would commit a sizable force against the covenant so it can be assumed that that is a small faction of the human fleet) with almost one shot kills on Mass Effect ships the effects of the increased rate of fire might not be that big of a contributing factor. Also some Halo human ships have been known to fire multiple times in rapid concession.
Mass Relays allow the ME ships to move almost instantaneously, but with out the relays it takes the ME ships years or decades to get around. Slip-space allows human ships to get around more slowly but it takes the ships a most of a couple of weeks to get anywhere to anywhere and every human ships has one.
There are over 800 Halo human colonies ALL with a human presence, otherwise they wouldn't be colonies, you need people to be a colony. But the populations of the colonies vary greatly from planet to planet as does the military presence. There are around 210 'inner' colonies, which would generally have a greater population then most of the 590 'outer' colony worlds. By the end of the war almost every 'outer' colony had been glassed but only a handful of inner colonies were glassed, about ten so far if you count the unconfirmed planets that are confirmed as 'inner' colonies. There are a lot planets not confirmed glassed and what there designations are ('inner' or 'outer').

I didn't know the numbers for the mac rounds. Thanks for posting them. One round from a ME ship could probably take out most halo human ships though. And their shields can take a few hits. So....maybe a hit or two. I'm using 30kt mac rounds and 60 for USNC. If it takes for mac rounds from a ME cruiser which is 30 it take 120 so two 60s from a halo ship. Just for the sake of early math. I really enjoy debates like this. UNSC would still win I guess. They have the numbers. And to go from reach to harvest was about six weeks I think the book said.

Keep in mind I was only talking Halo human ships, never mind the covenant ships and their weapons. 64 KT is the weakest MACs. Strongest would probably be the Infinity's but no numbers have been released for those so the next one would be Mark V "Super MAC". Its' cannon fires a 3000-ton ferric-tungsten round at 12,000 kilometers per second, the weak (64 kt) ones are 600-ton ferric-tungsten projectile at 30 kilometers per second. So the explosive force for the strong MACs are... bigger. (I think like 50 giga tonnes but I am isn't smart so don't take my word for it). Also the reload times for the bigger ships can be as little as 5 seconds. Also without shields the Halo human ship's hulls are pretty resilient.
